make fails on gnucash from CVS

That is your problem.  You need g-wrap 1.3.2 in order to compile
Gnucash from CVS.  I don't know why the configure script didn't
blow out on this like it should have.  But I have an idea..

What do you get from:

        g-wrap-config --version
and
        guile-config --version
