Fwd: hacking/helping with gnuCash

Hi
 
I have just recently started using GnuCash
(migrating
from Quicken). I would like to help port GnuCash to
gnome2 2.x. Where do I get started ? 
 
I read the "CVS access" page
(http://www.gnucash.org/en/hacking.phtml) but I am
not sure if following the directions there will check
out a version of gnuCash being ported to gtk2/Gnome2.

I have reasonable C/C++ programming skills and am a 
beginner level gtk2 programmer.

PS: I have the the following systems available to me.
Please let me know if they are sufficient to
compile/test/develop gnuCash

1. Debian Woody (3.0) with a back port of Gnome 2.0
2. Gentoo
