I've seen similar messages but only as compiler warnings. However, *this* 
output is definitely wrong, and it comes from

SuSE has its own system name here, which the autotools don't recognize 
correctly. You need to run configure with --build=i686-linux-gnu . I'm not 
totally sure on whether this fixes the "gettext redefined" problem, but it is 
another problem that needs to be fixed anyway.
