This happened with self-compiled gnucash. If there are pre-compiled
packages, I'll try them happily.

There is no de.gmo file indeed. Neither in /usr/local (where I installed
gnucash currently) nor in /usr (where I had 1.6.x installed a long time
ago.). I even didn't found a de.gmo file in just downloaded file
gnucash-1.7.8-1.i386.rpm. The only de.gmo exists in /po/ subdirectory in
the gnucash sources. Should I copy this file somewhere under
/usr/local/share/... ?
