Actually, I thought these errors are rather reported in the file config.log, 
at the end of the "checking for ..." messages somewhere in the middle of the 
file. It usually says "compiling test program failed", and if you look at the 
very last compiler command and its error output, then you usually see what 
the compiler complained about.

However, this is really deep into the compiler system and I clearly won't 
recommend doing this except for the experienced programmers. Isn't there some 
rpm of gnucash for RedHat 8 somewhere around? I don't have RedHat so I don't 
know about this.
