backend/RPC and backend/net

It came up in another discussion a few days ago, in passing, but I just felt 
like checking.

Do we want backend/RPC and backend/net
1. deleted from svn completely
2. removed from the svn build and dist but still in svn
3. just removed from the dist.

?
