Preference:Separator character question

Hi

Sorry, It's me again...:)

Since I am not a native english speaker, I would like to have some help
in explaining what the following means.

Any single non-alphanumeric unicode character.

To me, alphanumeric means a-z, A-Z, 0-9 plus .,;: etc...
and non infront of it sort of removes all possible single characters,
or?
