Just to let you know that I got around this problem (basically as Andrew
suggested) by writing a perl script to suck transaction details out of
my POS system and generate a QIF file which then imports without problem
into gnucash. Why I didn't think of this earlier I'm not sure, but
thanks to Andrew for kicking my brain into gear.
