configure spewage on clean svn tree due to missing POTFILES

Actually, the damage isn't completely random.  Seems to be about a
dozen places where there is localized damage limited to newlines,
spaces and bangs.

Maybe it's not mailer damage, but really in your file, since, when I
undamage the file, it's 100% identical to my script.
