If you have two versions of g-wrap around, yes, it's still possible.

If you built 1.9.6, you may need to update it first.  Edit
configure.ac and change "glib" to "glib-2.0", rerun autoconf,
reconfigure and rebuild 1.9.6..   Make sure you remove all
remnants of any 1.3.4 development packages.
