windows build and r15912

[Hale Boyes, Kevin]

This looks pretty good.  I put my single override in custom and 
it seems to be working well.  I'm just running install.sh now
(it takes a while on my machine).  The addition of the sample
custom script at the top of defaults is very helpful.
