It isn't exactly the same symptom, but I'm betting on a common cause.  
There is something wrong with the communication between the generic  
import transaction matcher and the register. When I have the problem  
V. Weinstein sees, the incorrectly maintained transactions stick  
around, maybe because I don't reboot soon enough. Even if I try to  
delete them in the register, funny (and inconsistent) things happen.
