Gnucash 2.2.1 on Mac OS X

Greetings,

I have built Gnucash 2.2.1 on a functional Gnome 2.18 stack on Mac OS  
X 10.4.9, and it never gets past the startup screen stating "Loading  
data...".

This occurs with or without my existing ~/.gnucash preferences  
present. I did not have this issue with the same Gnome stack with  
Gnucash 2.0.5.

It is not immediately clear to me why after looking at: gnucash-bin.c.

What is it trying to load? This same error occurs with or without  
binreloc enabled, but when it is disabled I do get a warning that it  
was disabled at configure time. I wonder since this is new to 2.2 if  
this might be related to the problem.

Any hints/help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
