crash when printing checks over $999, 2.0.X

There isn't one.  The function that's crashing hasn't changed since it
was written in the year 2000.  Any chance you've recently upgraded from
guile 1.6 to guile 1.8?  The newer version is much pickier.

BTW, I do see this crash and have a fix for it.
