Custom Multicolumn Reports broken

Saving customized multi-clumn reports _should_ work since
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348860 was fixed in 2.2.8
(However, there are still issues if you have more than one tab open showing
a custom multi-column report or if you create a custom report based on
another custom report. These issues result in a mixing of report elements.)
I never observed the error described by Joshua in 2.2.8 or 2.2.9.
