Glade 3.6.2 allows to set the maximum Gtk+ version in the preferences. I had 
set it to 2.10 prior to making modifications. This should guarantee that the 
code generated is compatible with Gtk+ 2.10 and above.

I believe 2.10 was more or less agreed upon as the minimum version (given that 
this is the version used in RHEL 5). There was never a formal confirmation of 
this, though. Perhaps this is a good time to decide on this ?
If 2.10 is still too recent, glade can also generate code compatible with 2.8.
