notespage should be notes-page.  That's weird -- it worked for me with 
the wrong variable name.  Anyway, I've attached a new version of 
balsheet-eg.scm to the bug report at 
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574582

Please give that a go.
