While I'm at it I will answer your question. The opening balance must be 
inserted in the form a transaction from a "Equity:Opening balances" 
account to the account for which you have the opening balance. More on 
that topic is on the GnuCash manual that you could reach within GnuCash 
from "Help" menu.
