gnucash 2.2.9 fails configure for guile, looking for 1.6, cannot find guile, yet I have guile 1.8

Once you installed via non-RPM you've just created a non-maintainable
machine.  Who knows what uncontrolled files are still there now?

Seriously:

Install EPEL
yum install gnucash

Or just install Fedora.   CentOS is about 3 years old.
