Yes, I do that with github and sourceforge for gtk-osx, because github makes it easy for someone to fork off a repo and then let me know when they have something to pull back in, without having to give me access to some private server somewhere or to mess around with patches. Sourceforge provides nice project support for all of the other stuff.

I don't know how easy it is to get a repo on Gnome. The implication from their wiki is that a fair amount of groveling is required. Meanwhile, we already have a sourceforge project if for some reason Derek doesn't want to continue using the server that svn.gnucash.org points at.
