Crash on startup since SVN r19147 (Problems with Gnucash development environment on Ubuntu 10.04)

This is caused by my commits r19147 and r19148, two patches from  
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=615168 . On my Ubuntu 10.04  
system (guile-1.6.8) I only checked whether gnucash starts correctly,  
which it did, but most probably I would also see your crash on some of  
the business reports (which I don't use).

Hence, the two commits r19147 and r19148 should be reverted for now  
and Andy Wingo needs to submit different patches.
