I often launch a program like Gnucash and then continue with something
else while it starts up if it's going to take a while to start. The
splash screen makes this more difficult since it insists on being
frontmost. It's also a real nuisance if you're debugging startup code,
but that of course doesn't affect normal users. A command line option
to turn it off would be ok if you don't want to clutter up the
preferences. I could also just delete the code from my copy, that's
the advantage of open source software.
