Fixed columns vs saved column widths

The original bug poster has submitted a patch in the meantime that opts for 
the second alternative, meaning that the columns remain unchangeable by the 
user, but their size is not kept in gconf.

Unless there are strong objections I think I'll just go with his (nice) 
solution.
