~/.gnucash and XDG default directories

Same situation here (Recent Kubuntu desktop): There are a dozen directories 
below ~/.local/share so it is indeed being used. I think your proposal is a 
step forward in the long run. Of course the migration must be implemented to 
work seamlessly and someone must do it. If you consider this important enough 
to work on it (instead of other items), I agree it can go in ASAP.
