[Bug 645518] GnuCash crashes immediately after splash screen

Committed, r20497. Thanks for pointing out this workaround.

This also means we should have a 2.4.5 release (from the new 2.4 branch, of 
course) that fixes this crasher, as it has been reported several times in 
bugzilla already by now.

@Phil: Do you have time for a 2.4.5 release this week or the coming weekend? 
Or should someone else do this?
