Ugly problem

This is an unusual situation, I'm running the latest unstable version and the one from my distro on the same computer, the one I compiled is very pretty and a joy to work with, but the other is really ugly, it literally hurts to look at all day.  So I do a screen shot for reference and there is hardly a difference, maybe a font difference but nothing big.  If anyone has experienced this, it would be nice to find out why it gets that way and hopefully make it better for the majority of users.
