[GNC-dev] Documentation update problems

For what it’s worth, I was able to dig out the old xmllint/xsltproc commands and test and view my edits. 

I’d still love to know how I’ve f**ked up my development environment so that the currently-sanctioned approach (make|make clean|make install|make hay while the sun shines) doesn’t work.

Perhaps this is another instance of not trying to teach old dogs new tricks.
