Chris,

I can not reproduce your exact problem but I have ended up with a blank
drop down.
Jean Laroche made some changes in this area, may be related, see commit...

Merge Jean Laroche's 'fix_autocompletion_master' into master,
f74d7c52da378b126a1a0faffaddfb802b44dd8c
