I tried the same thing, but for me everything worked fine and I had hungarian 
messages all over Gnucash.

I run SuSE Linux 7.errrrr I think it was 7.3 but it might as well be 7.4. I 
run GnuCash 1.6.4 resp. the current stable CVS, but it's almost unchanged 
compared to 1.6.4.

Unfortunately I don't understand the font handling at all, so I can't give 
you any hint on where to look for solution of this problem.
