you also remove the macros directory from the build system but you
still require file in the macros directory.  This means "make dist"
will fail (or at least will fail to distribute the necessary m4 files
to rebuild the configure script).  In particular, you fail to deal with
as-scrub-include.m4, but there may be others.

Not to second-guess you, but is there some reason for the major
build-system changes?
