multi currency patch

I saw it.  It's still in my inbox.  Sorry I didn't respond earlier (I
haven't applied TomF's patches either, recently).  I looked through your
patch once and wanted to sit down and think about the ramifications.
Unfortunately I haven't had the time to think about it, so your
patch has been languishing in my inbox.  I'll try to get to it...
