ok.  When the first set didn't show up I thought that it was because
quilt wasn't rewriting the envolope-from header like my email client
does.  I thought it was even more likely when I hacked at quilt to
make it pass "-f c.shoemaker at cox.net" to /usr/lib/sendmail and then
the patched showed up (albeit over the course of several hours in an
apparently random order, but hey...)  But I guess that was all wrong.
I just needed to wait 3 days for the mail server to finish its
vacation.
