Importing into GnuCash from my bank via .qif

Hi all,

I need to import my most recent statement into GnuCash (up until now, 
I've been entering everything manually).  However, one thing I 
noticed is that the QIF file my bank allows me to download does not 
contain any category information for transactions.

Is there an easy way to import this information and make sure all the 
right GnuCash accounts get credited/debited?  It almost seems that it 
will be easier to just input all the data manually, since I'll have 
to go through it all one way or another.

How have others handled this dilemma?
