Hi all European users,

how are your experiences with the Euro conversion in general? Here in Hamburg
all ATMs are either broken (because of New Year's Eve rush-hour) or already
switched to Euro. I.e. it is almost impossible to get any more DEM cash. The
only cash I had left is the EUR 10,23 from my Starter kit -- which is only
usable from midnight onward. So I eventually sat down and converted all my
GnuCash accounts to Euro.

There's an interesting twitch that I encountered, a miraculous increase in my
assets: The Euro coin "starter kit" of EUR 10,23 had been sold for DEM 20,00.
Now once I changed my balance sheet to the new Euro accounts and viewed it in
the (sigh) old DEM currency, the EURO cash suddenly showed up as DEM 20,01 !
Somehow my cash assets had miracuously incread by DEM 0,01...

Fortunately this is totally correct and NOT A BUG. I guess more people will
be wondering about this behaviour, but it's easy: DEM 20,00 = EUR 10,22583...
which are rounded to EUR 10,23. This in fact means that my bank gave me EUR
0,00416... as a gift :-) . Now, when Gnucash calculates the DEM value of EUR
10,23, it comes out as DEM 20,00814... which are correctly rounded to DEM
20,01, and this is where I start dreaming of miracles and wonders in my cash
balance :-))

Happy New Year to everyone,

Christian Stimming
