refunds: how to file?

Hi.

Let's suppose I buy something with a group of friends, I pay for it and
hence file it as an expense in gnucash. Now, when they pay for their share,
how should I file that money? Up until now, I filed it a special form of
income, but I feel that it is not really an income... just... something that
should have never left my pockets at all ;-)

Both layman and accountant answers accepted.
