Importing bank QIF file fails

I'm getting the message (sorry - not at the machine right now) that the
QIF file I'm trying to import is inconsistent.

I downloaded it from my bank (Sovereign Bank in the Northeast USA).

Here's a record from the phile:

T33.74-
C
PHOME DEPOT #2667
MCHK CARD PUR 560702 SOMERVILLE   MA
^
It seems to me that from the documentation the T record should read
~T-33.74  not T33.74-

Could that be the problem?
Any suggestions?
