Trouble compiling 1.4.9

I've been trying to install version 1.4.9 of gnucash this afternoon.

The packages I've installed to support gnucash are:
SWIG1.1p5, g-wrap-0.9.8, guile-1.4, slib2c9.zip
In the appropriate order, of course.

However, compiling gnucash itself fails with the error message:

ERROR: No such file or directory

Can anyone please help me out here?  I'm running Slackware 7.0 and Linux
2.2.17 on an Athlon 800.  Thanks.  RJ Marquette
