Check the file config.log.  The last error message (usually of the
linker /usr/bin/ld) tells you exactly what is missing.  As I've found
out myself, the error message ./configure gives you, aren't really
precise.

BTW, there is a Debian package already available.  Check the Gnucash
homepage.  Works perfectly here!
