Help Please!

Hi folks

There's been two days now trying to compile GnuCash1.6 and all the
dependencies problems has been solved on the way expecept by two:

1 - wen I run ./configure --disable-guppi I get the folowing:

configure: error:

  popt 1.5 or newer is required to build gnucash. You can download
  the latest version from ftp://people.redhat.com/sopwith/popt/, or if
  you're running Debian, install the libpopt-dev pacakge.

So I got the popt packege, installed it keeps saying it doesn't have popt.
My config.log final lines are:
