gnucash freezes and upgrade dependency problems.

Hi Everyone!

I am running Mandrake 8.0 and wanted to use gnucash 1.4.10 that came with it.
Unfortunately, each time I wish to "save" or "save as" a file, it freezes and
I must kill the app. It means I can't even get started because I can't create
and save a new file.
The same things happens with KDE and Gnome.
Is that a known bug?

I tried to upgrade to 6.2.1 but I run into dependency problems:

# rpm -U gnucash-1.6.2-1.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        libgal.so.8 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libgnomeprint.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libgtkhtml.so.13 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppidata.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppidataui.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppimath.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppiplot.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppispecfns.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppistat.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppitank.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libguppiuseful.so.11 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        libg-wrap-runtime-guile.so.2 is needed by gnucash-1.6.2-1
        gnucash = 1.4.10 is needed by gnucash-devel-1.4.10-1mdk

Please note:
# rpm -U gnucash-1.6.2-1.i386.rpm
is this the proper syntax to upgrade?
Did I choose the wrong file for my Duron (i686)?

Anyway, I tried installing the following:
gnucash-1.6.1-1.i586.rpm
and run into the same problems.

I was hoping that:
libguppi11-0.35.5-1mdk.i586.rpm
which I found in the gnucash ftp site
would solve some dependency problems
but when I try to rpm -i, the process freezes.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks

Anguo
