Like most GUI apps on Linux, GNUCash creates a hidden directory in your home
directory to store things like applications preferences. Look for the directory
.gnucash under your home directory. You won't see it if you just do a standard
ls. You'll need to include the -a switch for it to show up. You ought to be
able to simply remove the whole thing. GNUCash will recreate it the next time
it runs. This will wipe out all your settings, including the contents of the
file menu.

With all the trouble you're having, I would highly recommend sticking to the 1.6
RPMs provided by RedHat. Like many apps in the Linux world, odd releases are
developer releases only. 1.7 has some really neat features, but it's not a
final release yet and it requires a lot of expertise to install.
