Which distribution are you using? I have compiled Gnucash with 
HBCI-support, and I use it successfully on SuSE 8.0 and SuSE 7.3.

The HBCI-Interface probably works as soon as the compiling with gnucash 
works well. At least I haven't heard otherwise -- i.e. if there were 
install problems, gnucash already points this out when running 
"./configure".
