I found the following two sites useful in getting a handle on the sort of
account structure I needed:

The latter is grotesquely designed, but nonetheless contains some useful
information, especially on doing adjusting entries at the end of a
financial period (if you're into that much detail).

The first site that I gave above has a link to a 'Monthly walk-through'
which deals with the handling of inventory, among other things.
