Openning old files?

Sorry for being unclear, but the file I am trying to
open is a Version 1.4 file.  When 1.6.5 trys to open
it I get a message box informing me it is an older
version, do I wish to continue.  Then after I click OK
I get a blank gnuCash frame with no account tree.  The
Accounts indicator is on the left of where the account
tree usually appears.  Any ideas?
