newbie question

i am a new gnucash user. I am using the gnucash that comes along with 
Mandrake 8.2. I noticed that gnucash creates a lot of log/transaction files 
in my home directory every time i use it. Can gnucash be setup to dump these 
files somewhere else, so that my home directory doesnt get cluttered ? is it 
ok to delete these files after exiting gnucash ?
