Accounts disappeared?

I am using version 1.6 on a Mandrake 8.2. I have the following (a bit 
ridicolous, I guess) problem. In the windows list the "accounts" choice 
disappeared a couple of days ago. So I can see charts, reports and so on 
but i cannot access my accounts. Is there a magic system to have the 
accounts materialize again? They were not deleted from the hard disk, 
because I can see the reports and also the XML file is apparently in good 
health.
