First of all, for SuSE 8.0 there is a pre-built 1.6.5 (or similar)
package available. Get them from
http://www.suse.de/en/private/download/gnomes/i386/update_for_8_0/extra.html
and make sure it runs, i.e. it will complain about any further packages
that you need.

Then, you will need the -devel packages for almost everything in Gnome,
i.e. those on
http://www.suse.de/en/private/download/gnomes/i386/update_for_8_0/devel.html
and if I recall correctly you need at least those:

gnome-core-devel
bonobo-conf-devel
bonobo-devel
gdk-pixbuf-devel
gnome-guile-devel
gnome-libs-devel
gnome-print-devel
imlib-devel
libglade-devel
oaf-devel
orbit-devel
glib-devel
gtk-devel
gtkhtml-devel
libghttp-devel

Once you got those installed, you are almost done :-) except that you
need a newer version of the "g-wrap" package from www.gnucash.org. But
beware: Gnucash 1.7.x requires g-wrap 1.3.2 whereas Gnucash 1.6.x
requires g-wrap 1.2.x and does *not* work with the newer g-wrap. So you
probably need to install the newer g-wrap manually into a different
directory. If your g-wrap 1.2.x is in /usr (IIRC the SuSE gnucash.rpm
does that), then you can install your g-wrap 1.3.2 into /usr/local.

If you got that, then gnucash 1.7.2 should build. Good luck :-)
