install issues

Hi,
I recently downloaded gnucash and am getting an error
when running ./config, complaining about not having or
finding a certain version of gnome-print (1.12 I
believe). I downloaded and installed gnome-print
(following the link on the gnucash site) which gave me
version 0.9 as the latest. I did nothing funny with
the gnome-print install (./configure;make;make
install).
So,
1. Why is there a dependency on gnome-print? Wouldn't
   it be more appropriate to give the user an error
   when they attempt the print (I don't care about
   printing myself) rather when they attempt to build
   the softare??
2. Why is the dependency on a version of something
   that does not exist?
Thanks,
Bill;
