  If you selected the default chart of accounts you should have a bunch of
expenese (expenditure) accounts present.

  When you open the main gnucash window, click on the little boxes with the
"x"s until you get to your checking account. Double click on that to bring
up the register.

  Within the register you can enter deposits and withdrawals. Use the tab
key to move across the row. When you make a second entry to one you entered
before, gnucash will fill in the fields for you and you need only alter the
amount.

  I _think_ this asks what you intended to ask.
