Compiled gnucash 1.7.3 on Suse 8.1 but ...

With some effort, I was able to get the 1.7.3 sources for gnucash to
build as an srpm in Suse 8.1.  Unfortunately, the result doesn't
function but gives the error:

$ gnucash
ERROR: In procedure dynamic-link:
ERROR: file not found

I see gnucash exec's a series of scripts leading to running guile.
As far as I can tell, the script gnucash-env correctly sets environment
variables for gnucash guile-modules, scm, and lib directories.  How can
I figure out which file is not found and fix the problem?
